Let’s peek into a few imperative rules you need to take care of for a learner’s and Full Driving License (for Australian citizens as well as Immigrants in the NSW)

Learner’s Driving License

  • The minimum age to apply for a Learner’s License is 16 yrs.
  • You need to pass the Driver Knowledge Test (DKT – a theory exam) to get the Learner License.
  • A full License holder must accompany you whenever you are driving on the roads.
  • Once you have held your learner License for at least 10 months, you need to pass the Hazard Perception Test- HPT
    • HPT is a computer-based touch screen test that assesses your ability to recognize danger while driving and reciprocate rationally.
  • Moreover, you need entries of 120 hours of supervised driving in the Log book that must have at least 20 hours of nighttime driving.

Procure P1 and P2 License

  • Apply for a P1 License after completing your Learner Driver Log Book, passing the HPT and 12 months (only if you are under 25 years old)tenure with learner’s License.
  • Before applying for your P1 License (Red License), you will need to pass a practical driving test. For which the appointed instructor will guide and teach you appropriately.
    • The next step would be getting a P2 License (Green License).
    • Again, you have to complete a tenure of 12 months with P1 to apply for P2.
    • At each stage, you need to pay the prescribed application costs.

The final stage to Full Driver’s License

  • To apply for a Full License, you must have been driving for a tenure of 24 months with a P2 License.
  • Apply for the Full License by submitting an application fee and passing the mandatory eyesight test.
